Snow Wardens

We've been recruiting town and parish councils to help keep paths and pavements clear this winter.

We've provided town and parish councils with:

  • between 0.5 to 1 tonne of salt free of charge.

  • free training courses for up to two representatives to attend regarding the safe operations for the clearance of snow and ice from footways.

  • regular updates of when routes within their area have been gritted.

In return the town/parish council will be asked to:

  • provide details of those footways within their parish that will be treated using the free salt.

  • encourage local residents to help themselves by clearing areas of the footway adjacent to their property.

  • identify a 'snow warden'. A snow warden will co-ordinate activities locally and provide us information about local conditions.

  • identify an individual who has authority to order the refilling of grit bins on behalf of the town/parish council - this may or may not be the Snow Warden.
