The Person

Councillor George Wharmby, member for Glossop North and Rural in the High Peak, became the 34th Chairman of Derbyshire County Council on 20 April 2011.

He was first elected on to the council in May 2005 and represents the area he was born in.

He is married to Jean, also a county councillor, and has two sons and two grandsons.

Councillor Wharmby is supported in his role by the Vice-chairman of the Council, Councillor Chris Jackson from Alport and Derwent.
