Chairman of the council

Here you can find out about the role of the Chairman of the council.

The Chairman of Derbyshire County Council presides over council meetings, which take place at Matlock in the council chamber at County Hall on Smedley Street about six times a year.

On becoming Chairman, the position holder takes over the official chain of office and traditionally acts as the council's figurehead for two years.

The ambassador-type role extends the length and breath of Derbyshire with the exception of Derby which, as a unitary authority, is responsible for all its own local government functions.
