How is council tax calculated?

The table below shows how council tax is calculated.

In determining the level of council tax, we have to firstly determine our budget requirement for the financial year (£513.2M).

This is our planned spending after deducting any funding from reserves and income it expects to raise.

We then deduct the total amount of Central Government Funding to establish the total amount to be financed by council tax.

This amount is then divided by the council tax base for us (the council tax base for us is equal to the number of band D equivalent properties).
