Performance Management

We work within the national performance management programme set up by the Youth Justice Board.

This programme ensures the consistency and quality of our service. It has three main strands.

  1. Performance measures
There are 13 performance measures which allow us to measure our performance against other teams around the country.

  2. Quality assurance
There is a self-assessment guide so we can measure our work with young offenders. The assessment covers 17 different aspects of our work.
Once we have completed the assessment it is verified by an external agency.

  3. Inspection
We are inspected by a multi-agency team as part of a five-year rolling programme. The Probation Service Inspectorate is the lead agency.

Performing well is important to us not just because it means we can make sure our work is a success but also as the Youth Justice Board can reduce or take away funding for areas where we do badly.
