Derbyshire Observatory

The Derbyshire Observatory provides an overview of Derbyshire through a range of social, health, economic, crime and environmental indicators. It builds a picture of life in Derbyshire and illustrates where improvements are needed.

The Derbyshire Observatory is a joint project between the partner organisations working to improve life for the people who live and work in Derbyshire. The partnership currently includes Derbyshire County Council, NHS Derbyshire County, and NHS Tameside and Glossop.

It was developed to facilitate access to the datasets contained within the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and the initial evidence base for the Local Economic Assessment (LEA).

It has grown to become the central evidence base for Derbyshire's partner organisations and will continue to develop as more partners contribute.

The indicators are presented in easy-to-use, interactive maps and tables that can either be just viewed or can be printed off and downloaded. Useful links are also provided to other research and reports that are relevant to Derbyshire.

The indicators are organised around ten themes:

  • Community and Involvement

  • Community Safety

  • Culture and Leisure

  • Economy

  • Education, Learning and Skills

  • Environment

  • Health and Wellbeing

  • Housing

  • People and Place

  • Transport and Access
