Census Information

The 2001 Census contains a wealth of detailed statistics about Derbyshire and its people.

Topics include where people live, what they do, what sort of homes and families they have, their general health and their educational qualifications.

In order to make sense of all this information, we have grouped together the most commonly used statistics to form a series of six "profiles": a summary profile, and five more detailed profiles dealing with dwellingseconomic activityhealthhouseholds, and population. A set of these profiles is available for the whole county, and for every district and ward within it. The profile sets are in PDF format, 580k for each area.

We have also created a Census Atlas of Derbyshire which contains a mapped analysis of 40 key census statistics at ward level.

  • To view or download the profiles for the whole county or a set of summary profiles for all districts, select Derbyshire from the links on the left.
  • To view or download the profiles for a district or a ward, select the district from the links on the left and then choose the area you require.
  • Also available in the More information section is a glossary which gives a full definition of the terms used in the profiles.
  • To view or download the atlas, select Census Atlas from the links on the left.

All the documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF). You can download the PDF software for free if it isn't available on your computer. Download Adobe Reader (opens in a new window) or visit our information pages to find out more.
