Briefing notes
These notes aim to provide more detail on relevant data and topics on a timely basis.
Over the coming months, a programme of publications will be developed on a variety of topics relating to Derbyshire.
Population Estimates (mid-year 2010)
Our latest briefing note is an update of the 2009 mid-year population estimates (briefing note one, below) and covers the 2010 population mid-year estimates, published in June 2011 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and includes updates on:
population change since 2001
age and gender breakdowns
old-age dependency rates
natural population change (net effect of births and deaths)
residual migration (difference between total and natural change).
Showing Derbyshire as having an ageing population with a slow growth rate when compared against the East Midlands region and England.
Population Projections (ONS 2008-based projections)
The second briefing note is the 2008-based Sub-national Population Projections for England, which were published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in May 2010.
They give an indication of future trends in population for the period 2008-2033 by:
gender and broad age group
population growth
dependency ratios.
These data show Derbyshire's older age population is set to rise significantly by 2033, and with a predicted drop in the working-age population across the county, this will increase the dependency ratio significantly above the region and the national averages. Full details can be accessed in the briefing note below.
Population Estimates (mid-year 2009)
Our first briefing note covers the 2009 population mid-year estimates, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) June 2010, showing the population estimates for Derbyshire county, available in related documents.
