Long Eaton 50+Forum

Committee members Long Eaton and District 50plus Forum began in 2005 and since then membership has grown to over 400.

This picture was taken during the showcase event at County Hall when the Pensions Reform Minister, Rosie Winterton, attended and was impressed by what the 50 plus forums have achieved in Derbyshire.

Our brief is to investigate issues chosen by our local 50+ community.

Over the last three five years, we have looked at 14 issues and have produced several written reports of our findings. In addition we have gained invaluable partners from local service providers.

The time has flown by and the venture has been remarkably positive. Old people are often seen as boring grousers but our journey has enabled us to draw on our strengths and has provided a warm and life-affirming meeting of people with common interests − who happen to be older than average!!

Our forum has been lucky in getting support from our support officer from the Derbyshire County Council, Well Being Team, Adult Social Services. She has been a patient, good humoured and enthusiastic mentor and we could not have achieved so much without her, "Thanks,Jo!"

Our three monthly Open Forum meetings are held in the Council Chamber, Long Eaton Town Hall provided by Erewash Borough Council.
