Activities and achievements
Our three monthly Open Forum meetings are held in the Council Chamber, Long Eaton Town Hall provided by Erewash Borough Council.
The meetings include a raffle drawn to aid our funds. Several speakers address a chosen topic of local concern. We have held 16 of these so far.
We are currently launching out into action support groups covering the environment, health and leisure and independent living.
The groups are working with partners from local service providers such as Derbyshire County Council, Erewash Borough Council, Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust and Trent Barton.
During the last year these groups have come together at the meeting to discuss a single topic such as Erewash Core Strategy.
Our main achievements to date are:
- An effective bus shelter campaign working with Trent Barton and Neighbourhood Services, Erewash Borough Council which has highlighted vandalism in local bus shelters. The resulting improvements have been encouraging.
- Computer courses for beginners in our local library run by us using their free computer terminals. This followed the identification of a real need for low cost adult education following recent changes in government policy.
- The formation of a thriving branch of the University of the Third Age in our area.
- The formation of a Travel club, that has had sucessful visits to York and Chester.
