What are we doing?

The management committee works hard on behalf of the 50+ community to try to help improve the lives of older people in the area.

We have achieved getting an older people's exercise area put behind the Welfare Centre on Wilmot Street which we are pleased to say is used regularly by the community.

We are also working on a big project to try and get disabled access to the south bound platform of Langley Mill train station.

We are pleased to announce that all GP's surgeries in the area now have patient participation groups and all meetings have a 50+ Forum representative there ensuring that our voices are heard and the needs of older people are considered.

Presentations at the open forum are chosen not only to let members know what is new in areas that affect them, but also to stretch their imagination and to demonstrate what older people can do in their leisure time. To this end jewellery makers, card makers, florists and wood workers have given displays and the committee is looking for more examples of craft workers.

One of the main aims of the management committee is to have more interaction between the 50+ Forum members and the youth of the area. As a result, events have taken place involving the Forum and local infant and secondary schools. This was demonstrated when the choir of Mundy School entertained the Forum members at an open forum. Mundy School also attended another recent event to tell us about the hugely successful community garden project.

If you have any topics of interest or something that is concerning you in the local area, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us so the forum can explore it on your behalf. You can contact the forum support officer on 01629 532049 or email louise.hiron@derbyshire.gov.uk

Please come along and meet us, new members are always welcome.
