Are you old enough?
Did you know that young people have to be a certain age before they can be legally sold cigarettes, alcohol, solvents or butane?
To help retailers and licensees stay on the right side of the law Derbyshire County Council is helping them make sure everyone knows where they stand with an awareness-raising publicity campaign called 'Are You Old Enough?'

Stickers, posters and other campaign materials have been produced for retailers to display in their stores.
And shop assistants have been given badges to wear featuring the message 'Old enough? No proof - no sale!' to discourage children from attempting to buy age restricted products.
Every retailer and licensee will also get the chance to see a new DVD commissioned as part of the campaign.
The Price to Pay is a hard-hitting drama written by Victoria Newton and directed by BAFTA-nominated Andy Frith. Its gritty storyline brings the potential and sometimes tragic consequences of an underage sale sharply into focus.
Produced by Derbyshire County Council's trading standards team, the new 15-minute film forms a central part of the 'Old Enough?'campaign.
It was shown to traders at seminars held around Derbyshire and asked them the question − "You might know the law − but do you ask the question every time? Remember, it's no proof - no sale. Always ask!"
The DVD urges salespeople, retailers and licensees to think what might happen if a sale is made without checking if a young buyer is old enough.
Are You Old Enough? has been funded with the help of a grant from the Government's Blueprint drug education research programme through the Derbyshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team. You can find out more on the Blueprint page of the website.
