Salt reduction in sausages project

We are carrying out a project to reduce the salt in locally produced sausages.

We are looking for Derbyshire butchers to take part in the project which has been based on tried and tested methods.

Those participating will receive all the guidance and assistance needed for success.

Eating too much salt can result in raised blood pressure and increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Unfortunately, reducing the salt in our diets can be difficult as 75 per cent of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy.

Butchers interested in taking part in the project should contact Cathy Knights by phone 01629 539868 or email.

For more information on salt and health, you can visit the NHS website 'Are you having too much salt?' (opens in a new window) and the Food Standards Agency page 'FSA 2012 Salt reduction targets' (opens in a new window).

Our leaflet is also available to download from the related documents.
