Food, agriculture and weights and measures inspections

We carry out inspections at all levels of the supply chain, which include producers, manufacturers and retailers.

Food and agriculture inspection

These include examining raw material, recipes, labelling, date marking, production processes and production records at premises as diverse as farms, manufacturers and market stalls.

Weights and measures inspection

These include the testing of weighing and measuring equipment used to buy and sell goods to make sure it is accurate and complies with legislation requirements.

For example: petrol pumps, pub measures, shop scales and weighbridges.

Also, goods required to be sold by weight or measure are checked for compliance, for example prepacked foods, coal deliveries, etc. We also operate a mass calibration laboratory

We have a sampling programme to check compliance on composition, description and chemical contamination. This supports the food and agriculture inspection programme.

We also produce an annual Food Enforcement Plan which details all activities undertaken by us with respect to food and agriculture.
