Fair trading inspections

Inspections carried out by the fair trading section focus on four key areas.
  • The description of goods and services
This includes new and used cars, property, holidays and electrical goods.
  • The pricing of goods and services
This includes price marking in shops, special offers and sales.
  • Credit related issues including misleading advertising
This includes advertised ofers that aren't available and misleading credit terms.
  • Counterfeit products
This includes people who produce fake goods as well as those who sell them at markets and car boot sales.

Inspections are carried out at all levels of the supply chain and can include the taking of samples, which are tested to make sure that goods are accurately described.
