Enforcement

The main purposes of enforcement action are to:

  • Make sure that businesses comply with trading standards legislation
  • protect the interests of consumers.

Our enforcement policy gives guidelines to make sure that we enforce the law in a fair and consistent way. It also specifies what action the service may take against traders and businesses that do not abide by trading standards legislation.

Please see the more information section on this page to view or download our Enforcement Policy.

There is also a link to the Cabinet Office's 'Enforcement Concordat', which we have adopted.

We welcome comments about the content of our enforcement policy or the manner of its use by any officer. They are important in helping us continually monitor, review and shape the policy. They also help us to make sure that it remains current and meets legislative requirements.
