Business Transport Plan

Derbyshire County Council provides support to organisations interested in adopting travel plans. Our "Sustainable Travel Officer" offers free advice on how to get started.

We are up-to-date with local transport issues and can:

  • Offer free information and advice about developing and implementing an effective travel plan,
  • Facilitate discussions between local public transport operators and businesses,
  • Channel requests for highway engineering measures into the local planning process, and
  • Direct you to sources of assistance such as useful publications, funding opportunities, business networks, travel planning conferences and relevant organisations and associations.

What is a business travel plan?

A travel plan is a package of practical measures to reduce the cost and environmental impact of work-related travel by offering staff realistic and cost-effective alternatives to their car. But it is not anti-car. Travel plans promote flexible and sustainable transport solutions, such as car share schemes, working from home and cycle facilities, tailored to businesses' individual needs.

What a travel plan can do for your business

A dedicated travel plan, backed up by the appropriate resources, can overcome many of your company's transport problems, save you money and deliver benefits to your staff and business.

It can:

  • Reduce costs and time spent on commuting and business travel.
  • Make car parks more cost-effective and reduce congestion around your site.
  • Encourage staff retention and recruitment and improve staff fitness levels.
  • Protect your environment and enhance your image with your community and your clients.
