Pension Credit
On a low income?
Can you get Pension Credit?
You can claim Guarantee Pension Credit if:
- You are over 60.
- Your income is lower than the amount the Government sets as a minimum level for your circumstances.
You can claim Savings Pension Credit if:
- You are over 65.
- Your retirement income is more than the basic State Retirement Pension, but not greatly so.
Both types of Pension Credit will look at how much income and savings you already have. There is no upper limit on the capital you can have which automatically excludes you from getting Pension Credit.
Rent and Council Tax Rebates
If you are awarded Guarantee Pension Credit you will usually get full help with your rent and Council tax. The normal capital rule of a £16,000 limit does not apply if you are on Guaranteed Pension Credit, so even a small amount of Guaranteed Pension Credit could make a big difference by gaining you extra help with your rent and Council Tax. Please see the separate information available through the link on the left. The Benefits Helpline can work out for you if you could qualify.
