Staff education and training
The Staff Education and Training centre at Ripley provides an exciting range of courses, many of which are linked to professionally recognised qualifications.
There are courses which cover the Skills for Care (SFC) induction standards as well the ever expanding knowledge and skill sets.
Similarly there are courses which underpin the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) common induction standards for staff working in children’s social care.
Social Care Training
All courses are available to personnel employed in a social care setting, whether they are employed within the council or within the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sectors (PVI) with the majority of courses offered free of charge.
Unfortunately there are occasions when we do have to charge applicants from the PVI sectors a small fee, currently this is when an examination or accreditation fee is payable i.e. Medication, Basic Food Hygiene and First Aid courses and for those who work in a Health Care Setting or in the Derby City Council area (these fees can be reclaimed from Skills for Care (opens in a new window)).
Also we have to charge an administration fee when a participant from the PVI sector fails to attend or cancels from the course within three weeks of the start of the course. In view of this it is important that all participants attend their booked training courses where possible.
Staff from other departments in the council are welcome to attend training offered, if it is seen as appropriate to their needs and there are places available. There will however be a small fee per applicant and details are given on the external booking form.
We have a large training team who deliver a varied and exciting range of training courses at venues throughout the county. We also aim to be flexible in our approach to training to suit the needs of establishments where possible, providing in-house training and full comprehensive training packs.
