Care Leavers Employment Project

The Care Leavers Employment Project (CLEP) main aim is to improve young people's post 16 education, training and employment opportunities.  In short, to help them get a good start in adult life.

The Project is part of the Derbyshire Social Services and of Derbyshire Connexions, and works with young people across the whole County aged 16 - 19 who are or have left the care of the Local Authority.

The CLEP provides a series of services to young people depending on their needs.  The young person is involved in all the stages of the support given.  The workers meet the young person on a regular basis and all the work is planned and discussed with them.  The young person gets on going support all the way.

The Project offers:

  • Information and advice on training and employment
  • Work experience placements
  • Sponsored employment for those with limited chances due to lack of qualifications or experience
  • Other types of activities to develop self-esteem and confidence, help with equipment and travel expenses.

Aside from individual support, the project organises Gis'a Job groups.  These are a small informal groups that get together for several weeks to talk about getting a job (curriculum vitae, application forms, work experience).

To get the support of the CLEP the young person has to be referred by their aftercare worker, social worker or carer.

For more information, you can talk to your aftercare worker or directly to the Employment Project on 01773 535495.
