Children with a sight impairment

We offer support, information and advice, to parents of children who have been diagnosed with a sight impairment. We work closely with health and education colleagues in providing these services.

Assessment
We offer a home visit and an assessment. The assessment will consider support you may need, such a

  • benefits
  • equipment 
  • your child's entitlements 
  • adaptations to your property
  • welfare benefits information.

As staff undertake regular training to ensure that we are aware of current legislation to enable us to give advice on matters relating to support for your child. 

Registration
Your child's medical consultant will have discussed your child's registration with you. It is the medical consultant who makes the decision on the correct level of registration. 

Your child will be registered as either severely sight impaired, sight impaired or partially sight impaired. We will work in consultation with you to make the registration.
