Carers cannot smoke if caring for children under two or for children of any age with a health problem.
Carers need to have a spare room so that looked after children can have a room of their own.
During the assessment process, you must disclose any criminal offences so we can discuss your suitability as a carer. While we can accept that some offences will not limit your chance to foster, some offences will automatically prevent you from proceeding through the assessment.
Carers need to be in good physical and emotional health and not have had any serious illness or any major life changing event during the previous twelve months.
Foster carers are expected to have some experience or caring for children.
Carers will need to have accommodation that is of a good standard and where there time as occupiers is secure so that children can experience stability when placed.
Our foster carers are expected to help children with their education and take part in social activities.
Derbyshire County Council will check any pets in your household in case they would be unsuitable when placing a child or young person with you.
