Social care & health
This is a list of children in Derbyshire currently wanting an adoptive home. They are all children with a plan for adoption but the names have been changed.
There will also be young children (under three) needing adoptive homes. However they never get onto this list because there is always a plentiful supply of adoptive families for them. People who wish to adopt children under the age of three will still be considered, but allocation of a social worker to do their assessment cannot be seen as a priority.
People who are interested in any of the following children, or children like them will be prioritised.
Jenny (Aged nine)
Jenny is a bright nine year old girl who has learning difficulties. She can be quite challenging, but is a rewarding child. Jenny will need to maintain contact with her young brother who is placed separately.
Jane (Aged four) and Ashley (Aged five)
Jane and Ashley have experienced a lot of disruption in their short lives. This has made them highly competitive and Ashley can be aggressive. It is thought that with security and guidance, they will be rewarding children, who will reach their full potential. It is intended to maintain contact with their younger sister who will be placed with other adopters.
Alan (Aged 10)
Alan suffered serious abuse at the hands of his parents. He has demonstrated enormous resilience and is developing well with his current carers. It is thought that he will be a very rewarding child for his adoptive parents.
Charlie (Aged 10)
Charlie is a charming young boy whose appearance reflect his dual heritage (white/asian). Charlie has low self-esteem and his adoptive parents will need to spend time encouraging him and helping him to appreciate his achievements.
Adrian (Aged six)
Adrian is the youngest of three children. His older brother and sister are already placed for adoption and the plan is that they will meet up several times a year. He is a friendly, chatty little boy with a very independent streak.
Nicole (Aged six)
Nicole is the youngest of three girls who have experienced sexual and physical harm as well as neglect. Her early experiences have left her a very damaged little girl who needs clear boundaries and consistency. She is very affectionate and responds well to attention.
Dale (Aged six)
Dale has blonde hair and blue eyes. He has learned to copy sexualised behaviour and has demonstrated this in his foster home. Hence he is placed separately from his younger sister, although it is hoped that they will be able to have contact occasionally.
Ashna (Aged three), Rana (Aged four) and Ailsa (Aged six Months)
Ashna, Rana and Ailsa are dual heritage children (asian/white), who need to be placed together in a family that reflects their ethnic origin. Rana tends to boss his sisters about, but they have a strong bond. Rana and Ashna are both quite independent and need the opportunity to develop more dependence on significant adults.
Jack (Aged five)
Jack is a lively and active boy. He is very determined, although he has a fairly quiet personality He is interested in most things and loves individual attention and affection.
Julie (Aged five)
Julie is a happy contented little girl with a huge rewarding smile. Julie's development is severly delayed and she will always need constant care and attention. For the right people she will bring huge rewards.
Ryan (Aged four)
Ryan has severe developmental delay and significant learning problems. He is described as sometimes living in a world of his own, and sometimes being in the same world as everyone else. When in 'our world' he enjoys physical play and interaction. He is less communicative and co-operative when in 'his world'.
Janine (Aged eight)
Janine is a little girl who lacks confidence and craves attention. She likes swimming and board games and enjoys doing these activities with others. She is a friendly little girl.
Nadine (Aged six)
Nadine has foetal alcohol syndrome, which means she will need substantial care and support throughout her growing years into adulthood. She has an engaging personality, a cheeky smile and is very active. She attends a school for children with special needs where she has learned her alphabet, can count to 250 and uses Makaton sign language. Nadine needs adults who have stamina and resilience to make a permanent commitment to her, preferably via adoption.
Neil (Aged nine)
Neil is a tall, athletic, active boy. He needs a permanent new family who reflets his family of origin (white/black african), preferably Ghanian. Neil is a very loveable boy who can be sensitive, blaming himself for his situation. He has made very good progress whilst in looked after care, and is now ready to move to a new family, preferably one that is active and enjoys sports.
Janine (Aged eight)
Janine is a fair haired petite little girl. She would ideally like a two parent family who would actively involve themselves in the things she loves eg. swimming, Brownies, walking, feeding horses and would love to go to dance classes. Janine needs someone who will positively promote contact with her half sister who was adopted and also indirect contact with other family members.
Daniel (Aged six)
Daniel is a likeable boy who has had a difficult early life. This has on occasion made him angry and frustrated, but this is much more manageable than in the past. He is proud of his achievements and responds well to praise. He seeks out cuddles, reassurance and is happy to be with older children once he gets to know them. He would ideally like a two parent family, but understands that families can be just mum or dad.
