Housing and Related Support Strategy for Older People in Derbyshire.

Our aim is to help people live as long as possible in their own home maximising independence, dignity and self respect.

  • Outlines what we are going to do to extend choices about housing and support in the future and helping people stay at home.

Facts and figures about older people living in Derbyshire:

  • There are over 123,000 people over 65 years in Derbyshire. This is 17 per cent of the total population of the county. This is above the national average

  • The number of older people is growing. Over the next 10 years the number of older people living in Derbyshire will grow by up to 30 per cent. The biggest increase will be in people who are over 85 years old

  • The area with the largest increase of older people is South Derbyshire (37 per cent). The smallest increase will be in Chesterfield (20 per cent)

  • About three quarters of older people in Derbyshire own their own home. This is above the national average;

  • Most other older people rent their home from their local Council or a housing association.
