Major Adaptations - supporting people with disabilities to live independently in their own homes

In order to live independently some people will require additional assistance in the form of adaptations to their property.

The property can be privately owned, council or other rented accommodation.

What is an adaptation?

An adaptation is defined by the Department of Health as modifications to a disabling environment "to restore or enable independent living, privacy, confidence and dignity for individuals and their families".

This can be a change or series of changes to the property where a disabled person lives in order to improve safety, access to and within the property or to basic facilities such as bathing and toileting.

A Major Adaptation is one which costs over £1,000.
