Missing people

If the missing person receives a service from us and we are unable to make contact, then we contact family, friends and neighbours to ask if they have any information as to their whereabouts.

Our level of concern will be increased if we believe that an individual might be at risk (for instance an adult potentially not taking their medication or a child on the child protection register/missing from a foster home or residential care home).

In high risk cases, staff work closely with the police and with the local media to try and locate missing people.

In any circumstances, whether the person is known to Social Care Services or not, if there is concern for the person’s safety and well-being, a referral should be made to the police.

Staff are available to give information and advice and, in certain circumstances, to undertake contacts and liaison with the police.

Please contact your local office if there is current involvement from a member of staff.

Please contact the police in the first instance in all other cases.

Please use the following link if you have any concerns about the safety or welfare of an adult. (opens in a new window)
