Pets and pet care

If a pet owner is temporarily unable to care for their pets because, for example, they have gone into hospital or residential care and no other pet-care is available, Social Care Services are responsible for arranging and paying for pet-care for a reasonable period of time.

Care for cats and dogs is usually provided in registered kennels/catteries but other options for these and for other animals will be considered.

Please contact your local office and ask for the duty worker. If the pet-owner is in hospital please contact the hospital social work team.
