Social care & health
From this date, the NHS via the appropriate Primary Care Trust, became responsible for contributing towards the cost of the nursing care that each person receives, whilst we continued to contribute towards the cost of each person's accommodation and personal care.
Therefore, everyone who lives in a care home is still liable to contribute towards the cost of their accommodation and personal care needs from any financial resources they may have.
For people who go to live in a care home from 1 October 2007 onwards, the NHS contribution is set at a single rate of £101 per week.
However, a person placed prior to 1 October 2007, who was in recepit of the higher band payment of £139.00 per week will continue to receive NHS funding at this rate.
These amounts are reviewed each year, usually at the begining of April.
People with financial resources in excess of £22,250.00 will also be eligible for a determination and receive a contribution from the NHS towards the cost of their care.
