Research

Research and consultation play an important role in delivering good quality social care services. It is also vital for our understanding of the impact of the services we provide. You can find out more about consultation, both about social care and other areas of the council, in the Your council section.

The Research Governance Framework is a government initiative to:

  • improve the quality of social care research and consultation
  • ensure that research and consultation make a difference to services
  • offer protection to those being researched or consulted.

Anyone wanting to carry out research or consultation with service users, their carers, social care staff or with any of our contracted agencies will need approval before commencing their project.

The Research Advisory Panel

  • The panel meets regularly to consider and approve research proposals, considering ethical issues, research/methodology, resources and to ensure that results are disseminated and fed back to participants of the research or consultation.
  • They are responsible for recording research and consultation activity within the department to avoid duplication, ensure all service areas are covered; and to avoid over-researching or consulting with the same people.
  • The panel can assist in ensuring appropriate improvements are made to services as a result of findings and recommendations of completed research projects.

On the left of this page you will find a number of links for information and guidance that will help you with your project, where to find further information and who to talk for early advice.
