Good mental health

We provide a number of services to support you with mental health and wellbeing.

What is mental wellbeing?

Mental wellbeing is the ability to cope with life's problems and make the most of life's opportunities. It's about feeling good and functioning well.

How can I look after my mental wellbeing?

You can take positive steps that can promote and protect your mental health.

NHS Derby City and Derbyshire County provide information in their Mental Wellbeing section (opens in a new window) that gives useful information, links and reading to help you do this. They have also produced a number of leaflets you can view or download to take away from this page.

Who else can help or advise me?

You can visit the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (opens in a new window) for further information.

You may also like to look at the Derbyshire Directory to find out about groups in Derbyshire offering advice and support for mental health.

You can also get advice and help from housing related support (formerly Supporting People) which helps people to live more independently and maintain their homes.

For the past couple of years Derbyshire libraries have been running a Wellbeing Project called Reading for Health and Wellbeing (opens in a new window). This project encourages people with mental health issues to read and talk about reading with others.

What if this hasn't worked for me?

If you have done these things and are still feeling depressed and anxious then please discuss your feelings with your local health professional/GP.

You can find more self-help groups and national help lines in the mental health resource directory, called Infolink. This document can be viewed or downloaded from the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Carers (opens in a new window)  page. A copy of the Infolink documents can also be requested by calling 01246 515974.
