Emotional support
Emotional support can come from a range of sources depending on your individual need and history. Across Derbyshire you can access befriending services, counselling and if you have been a victim of crime, victim support. There are organisation that could help you on the Derbyshire Directory.Befriending
Befriending is a person taking time to be with you and listen to you for social interaction and companionship.
There are a range of befriending services available through local CVS and volunteer bureau plus specialist organisations like Derbyshire Association for the Blind (DAB).
Some befriending services may have a small charge attached and they are generally delivered by volunteers.
Please see our page on befriending in the Getting Out and Involved section of this website.
Counselling
Counselling is a person taking a professional interest in your emotional wellbeing who will work to a strict code of ethics that has your interest at heart. There are different kinds of counselling available. Most counsellors will charge for their time and can be comparatively expensive in relation to befriending however they are doing very different work and will be trained to work with you and your psychological state closely.
Victim Support
Victim Support is an organisation that can support you following a crime being committed against you. They can also support you should you be required to attend court with their witness support team. Victim support services are free of charge and delivered by volunteers with paid co-ordinator support.
