Day opportunities

Day opportunities offer a chance to socialise and meet friends. They are usually open all day and staff and volunteers organise different activities to suit and entertain the people who go there.

These can include board games, bingo sessions, guest speakers on topics of interest, craft activities, entertainment, exercise classes, day trips and much more.

In some areas activities can be accessed at weekends. Day opportunities aim to support individuals with their personal development, independence and inclusion in local community life.

What activities are available?

Activities could be community based eg. going to the leisure centre or could be provided through groups with a specific aim, for example luncheon clubs to provide social contact, or groups set up to support individuals who have dementia.

For some people day opportunities will be organised through programmes of support. For example, help with learning how to travel on public transport confidently and safely.

Day opportunities can also be provided within buildings that are equipped for individuals who need support with their personal care and who will need access to facilities that maintain their safety.

Family carers who need some respite are also able to access day opportunities for the person they support.

How do I access day opportunities?

If you do not already receive our services, the first point of contact would be Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058. If support to access activities is needed, a visit from a care coordinator may be arranged to determine if you are eligible for support. We would then agree with you and your family carers how the support is to be provided.

When you attend a day centre that we own there is a cost for any meals and drinks provided. You can choose to bring your own food and drink with you.

If you are not eligible to receive services from us then you can search for activities in your local area and contact them directly.

Learning Disabilities

We also offer Learning Disability day centres across Derbyshire and Community Learning Disability Teams.
